The Walter E. Olson Memorial Library in cooperation with The League of Women Voters of the Northwoods is providing patrons with the Voter Education and Registration Assistance Project (VERAP) which will provide on-line or paper registration assistance to anyone who needs to register or re-register to vote. A table, computer, guidebook and paper forms are setup in the library technology area for local residents to use when completing the voter registration process. If you have had a name or address change since the Spring Election in April, you will need to re-register. Doing it now with our help will save you standing in line to do paper registration at your municipality hall on November 6 for the Fall Election. Beginning on September 7th and continuing through October 2018, come to the Library. Bring your Wisconsin Driver’s License or Wisconsin State ID card along with you. You will need to enter that number and expiration date. If you have moved and that address is not up-to-date with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, we can help you go online to make the address change without any charge. You will also need to have the last four digits of your Social Security number for this process to be completed electronically. If you do not have a Wisconsin driver’s license or ID card, you can still register electronically by using the last four digits of your Social Security # instead along with a Proof of Residence document like your utility bill if it has your current street address. We are eager to assist you in using MyVote Wisconsin, https://myvote.wi.gov, the official source for voting information in Wisconsin provided by the Wisconsin Elections Commission so that you can complete everything in this one step. With the General Election on November 8 many state and county offices will be on the ballot and you will want to be prepared to vote. In addition, VERAP assistance at Olson Memorial Library will be available all year long. From Thursday September 13th to the 29th we will have an International Dot Day Celebration. In the words of Peter Reynolds, the author of The Dot: “The only guideline for celebrating Dot Day is that folks read The Dot by Peter Reynolds and then express themselves in any way they are inspired to do. There's almost nobody on this planet who can't celebrate International Dot Day. Anyone can draw a dot, and anyone can make their mark. We are asking that our patrons of any age drop in the Kids’ Area and make a dot drawing, or, bring us a piece of dot artwork for us to display at the library during the month of September. Please use art paper no larger than 11” by 17”. We'll display on the tri-fold display boards in the Kids' Area. If you do a dot drawing and sign and date it, you can get a free book from our donated stash.
