    Our Summer Library Program includes reading! Stop in at the library and get a reading log. This program is for kids ages birth to age 18. Read or listen to books for a total of 10 hours. Cross off the icons in the boxes to show your progress. Enter your name, age and phone number plus the title of your favorite of the books you read or hears during this period. Bring the completed form to the circulation desk. Get a free book from our donated stash. Get a Pizza Hut personal pan pizza certificate (good through September 15th) Enter your name in our drawing for month-end prizes. Have a great time reading all summer!

    Note The Northwoods Children's Museum offers a family adventure of discovery with changing exhibits, daily events, and drop-in activities. The pass admits 6 people to the museum. The Pass may only be checked out by an adult holding a valid Eagle River library card (fines less than $10.00). Pass may be checked out for a 3 day loan (pickup after 3 pm day before, usage day, return by 11 am following day). Friday pickups are returned on Monday. NON-RENEWABLE. Late fee is $10.00 per day. Pickup time is anytime after 11am; return time is anytime before 11am. To reserve a pass, call the Library: 715.479.8070. For Museum information call: 715.479.4623. Museum hours of operation are: Monday - Saturday 10am - 5pm; Sunday Noon - 5pm. The Northwoods Children's Museum is located at 346 W Division St Eagle River, WI 54521.

    We have a LEGO vintage VW bus under construction in the adult section of the library. Any interested patron aged 12 or older is invited to sit at the table and work on it where the last person left off. We have a detailed construction booklet to guide us.

Craig Moore, the Society Historian, will offer presentation about one street in Eagle River. Attendance is free. This summer series of history presentations is a joint program of the Eagle River Historical Society and Olson Memorial Library

    On Friday August 24th, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., we will have our monthly meeting of the Coding Club in the Community Room. All interested kids and adults are invited to attend. If you have a laptop or other device, please bring it with you. We have some devices for people to use but would appreciate extras.

    In addition to our other games and crafts, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturdays, Aeris will be available to help you draw animals--real or mythical. Come to the Community Room with your ideas and any of your favorite drawing materials. We have some drawing paper, crayons, markers and colored pencils available to use as well. Aeris will be available to help you on Saturdays until September 1st. If you wish,. we can display them on the tri-fold easels in the Kids' Area.

    On Saturday August 25th, we will have a blue-jeans-themed craft project in the Community Room from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. as a celebration of the blue jean swap. Come and bring your blue jeans and decorate them with paints or jewels. Make a blue jean key ring or flower. Or, experiment on your own ideas. Kids 12 and under need to be accompanied by an adult.

    On Thursday August 30th, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., we will have another LEGO Creations session. This time, we will ask kids to create something that could be driven. This could be a boat, an airplane, a car, or one of many other things. We will photo and display the creations.

    On Friday August 31st, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., another STEAM Friday program will be presented. Our theme this time will be making salsa and marigold pickles. Afterwards, we will have a salsa and pickles tasting party. We will try to use the products of our raised garden beds--green peppers, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers and some spices. If we cannot get enough of our own produce, we will use some purchased at the farmer’s market. Please come and join us and help prepare the dishes. Please come with an adult if you are under 12 as we will need to use sharp instruments for part of the work.

    The Walter E. Olson Library will be closed today in honor of the national holiday--Labor Day. We will re-open Tuesday September 5th for our regular hours of 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. We wish all our patrons a happy and safe holiday.

    Join us at the Olson Memorial Library for the next event in our first Artist in Residence Series! Using techniques of mending, mend a favorite book in your own collection. This workshop is not about traditional book restoration. It is about a handmade artistic approach to patching and mending. We will use other materials to mend which support our Artist In Residency theme, "Repurpose and Upcycle". This workshop is lead by Debbie Ketchum-Jircik, our 2018 Artist In Residence.     Identity theft continues to be the fastest growing crime in the United States. The more you learn about it, the less vulnerable you are. The Wisconsin Bureau of Consumer Protection will explain the different types of identity theft, how to recognize it and how to prevent it – including information about Fraud Alerts and Security Freezes. Receive tips for safeguarding personal information and how to spot the red flags of a scam. You will also be given helpful brochures to take home with you. Presenter: Jeff Kersten is the Agency Liaison for the Bureau of Consumer Protection within the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. As the Agency Liaison, Jeff travels around the state to educate the public, businesses and law enforcement on the importance of privacy protection and data security. Jeff has over 12 years of prior experience as a police officer and is a former Investigator for the Bureau of Consumer Protection.
