My mom was always artistic and I never really picked it up until I saw this funny looking man with a huge afro on TV. I was in awe of Bob Ross and his style of Painting. It always amazed me how he could take a blank canvas and make such beautiful art. I used to watch him when he was on PBS and would record episodes and watch them for all hours of the night.
One day in the spring of 1996 I came home from work and immediately drove to the Ben Franklin store in Rhinelander and bought some paint, brushes and a couple of canvases and decided to paint a picture. The waterfall is the result of my very first painting, the mountains and cabin my second. Both were Bob Ross inspired and both are oil on canvas.
Life has a way of interfering with hobbies and my third painting, the dock on the ocean, didn’t get completed until 2019, 25 years after my first effort. Over the next few years I painted some pictures for friends and fooled around with different techniques and mediums. I started painting on a more regular basis in January of 2025 when I painted three pictures for friends who all had birthdays in February. Since, I have been painting on a fairly regular basis when time and inspiration permit.
Abstract painting has given me a new perspective on paintings and I truly enjoy where each painting takes me. I’m very passionate about the Impressionist movement and have come to realize that these types of paintings are difficult to master. This is where most of my inspiration comes from. I hope you get as much joy in viewing these as I have in creating them.
