“We all have our favorites, our heroes. In art, specifically painting, I prefer the abstract over representational. My heroes run the gamut from late Matisse to Kandinsky and Klee to Gorky and Pollock. Of course, de Kooning. And one terrific contemporary, Krista Harris. I respect and admire skill in whatever form; but I am most enthralled by the openness and free-flowing creativity of abstract expressionism.
The work on display here I like to refer to as Intuitive Abstraction. It is neither random nor hurried. These paintings are the result of often weeks of experimenting and re-working. The beginning ofter starts with just a line or color and invariably bears little resemblance to the “finished” result. I have used a number of techniques over the years; from brushes, spray paint, sponges, and rollers, along with various paints, charcoal and oil pastels. I seek to create a sense of movement, texture and depth by multiple overlays of varying technique.
There are not titles. Each work is simply what it is. Often influenced by natural themes, it does not pretent to represent or copy anything. Nor does it attempt to make some sort of grand statement other than what the viewer sees before him or her.”
